Week 7/Break: 30 Experiments
Circuit experiments...
One LED attached to a 3V battery |
Piled on Heaps of LEDs |
Connected two LEDS with copper wire. Had to use a 9V battery because the LEDs did not light up on the 3V |
Applying one end of the wire to the 3V battery in a switch like fashion |
Material Experiments...
Hogwarts Castle outline. Cut from cardboard. Would be done with a laser cutter |
LED torch shone through outline to generate a light and shadow image on wall |
Folding up elements such as qudditch hoops. Cut pitch lines. Would all be done on the laser cutter |
LED torch light cast on qudditch hoops to create an image on the wall |
Layering up label stickers to generate different thicknesses. When light shines through areas of light and dark can be seen |
Hogwarts Express. This can be used to create depth in an image instead of it just being a silhouette. Would use the vinyl cutter |
Adding colour using green cellophane. But still having a design to be seen |
LED torch light shone through cellophane generating green shadow |
Adding texture to an image using tissue paper with a design to be illuminated |
LED torch light shone through tissue paper showing texture and design |
Using multiple coloured cellophane to generate the Hogwarts Crest |
LED torch light shone through Crest onto wall |
LED torch light shone through felt to see texture |
LED through colourless acrylic |
LED through plastic bag |
LED through fabric. Shows the texture of the fabric quite nicely |
LED through the corrugate of corrugated cardboard |
LED through my finger |
LED through paper |
LED through glass |
LED through water in a water bottle |
LED through reflective material |
LED through plywood. Didn't work at all. Plywood to thick |
LED through cuts in plywood. Illuminates the outline |
LED through the black plastic for the UP Printers in the Fablab. Doesn't glow. Can't see light through it |
LED through clear translucent plastic for the UP Printers in the Fablab. Glows |

Mood Boards
I interpreted this exercise quite literally, as in the way I feel when I listen to this piece of music

My Piece of Music
I have Chosen the Harry Potter Theme song. This piece of music has many components as there are many significant pieces of music that have a connection with the Harry Potter series. I love and enjoy every moment of every part of the soundtrack.

Assignment Two
Design a conceptual MP3 Player inspired by a particular piece of music. Your design must :
- use a combination of a minimum of 3 different software programs
- use a minimum of 2 fabrication tools and at least 2 materials
- use a simple LED circuit to 'animate' your MP3 player
- have a representation of a sound output (speaker, speaker grill, 3.5mm stereo mini-jack)
- incorporate and mount the LED circuit
- include a switch design
